Kerameikos is a neighborhood of many contrasts, from creative restaurants, interesting neo-tavernas to authentic ethnic hangouts. However, this neighborhood is split and segregated by Peiraios Street, one of Athens main roads and connections that traces the ancient routes of Phaleron. The project looked at sustainable mobility in an active public space with the focus on function, movement, infrastructure as well as quality and identity. By implementing small interventions such as rising the curb and therefore separating pedestrians, cyclists as well as motor operated vehicles such as motorcycles and cars, privileges the pedestrian motions through very simple moves. This methodology can be applied to any area in Athens where there is a conflict between pedestrians and other transportation methods, which the city does not lag in numbers. This infrastructural bricolage of repeated material patterns will tie together the street and the people instead of dividing them.
